The Bane Bane Game is a game to honor the legacy of a special little boy...the son of sweet friends...who has made such an impact in his short little life...
It is about seeing each day as a gift and taking that opportunity to bless others around you. Wow, that was a huge challenge.
I pondered the game for a couple of days, knowing I would play...but it had to be perfect. I was praying for the right people and like others that have posted, it had to be significant. I wanted to "really" honor this little guy and this sweet family with something big.
Last Saturday morning, I woke up. I am going to be really honest. I had to go to work on a Saturday and well, I was irritated. Saturdays are meant for sleeping in, spending time with the ones you love, making pancakes, and relaxing the day away...not WORK. So, I found that I was quite snippy and "kind of feeling sorry for myself".
A couple of years ago, my husband starting to try to memorize scripture. At first, he jotted down several scriptures, put them in this vase that sits on our bar, and began to try to learn, in depth, the word of God. He does not know that I do this, but on particular mornings, when I feel especially grumpy...I go to that vase for inspiration...for a word from the Almighty.
This was last Saturday's word:
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
1 Peter 4:10
Yep, you read it correctly. Use your gift. I don't know about you, but I love when God so intimately reveals something to me. It makes you feel kind of special:)
So, I knew what I had to do that morning. I had to use my gift. So, right there I prayed God...send me the people to serve...provide a situation.
I started getting dressed when a distinct memory came to me. I was visiting Sonya in the hospital room the day after Bane was born. I had seen him the night before, but today I was visiting as a nurse and was getting to use my gift and help her feed her baby. I was really excited. It is times like that when I love my job. So, that brings me to who I chose to play the Bane Bane Game with. I chose to take "Random Snacks" of Kindness to the nurses at Williamson* Medical Center, as I was already heading there that morning. I took a card with sweet Bane's picture and shared his story. And I know this will not surprise you because God is so sweet, but 4 out of 7 nurses, were there the day Bane was born and helped in his delivery or care. I know this isn't big...or significant, but it was perfect...because in some small way today, as we (the nurses) sat around and reminisced on that sweet day in October...Bane was honored.
